  1. What's the point of highlighting a comment by presenting it on this video, dismissing it as "opinion," and not opining further about it yourself, as you do opine about other comments?

  2. Hi Tim I enjoy watching your show while I am in exile in Australia, it keeps me informed of the happenings in Thailand .I find the compressed font when showing viewers comments difficult to read .Would you please have compassion on an old Aussie and use a clearer font .

  3. People think of Thailand as a tropical paradise with smiling, kind and friendly people. Stories about police targeting foreigners, violence against protesters and torturing suspects to death will surely turn tourists off!

  4. I was shocked to discover some years ago that $10 bottle of Australian wine was being sold for about $40 Au in Bangkok, Thailand. It would probably be more in Phuket. When I was in Phuket in November 2019 Australian yogurt was over twice the price as here along with most other Australian products. Someone tried to tell me it was because of the import duty, but we are supposed to have a free trade agreement.

  5. The high price of wine is terrible in Thailand. In the SF Bay area I can get good table wines for 200 to 300 baht. 1000 baht $32.00 gets you a great wine in California.

  6. Bad things do happen everywhere Tim, however it's been a big talking point here and I get the feeling it is definitely turning some of those people off travelling to Thailand in the future.

  7. ending the video on a bit of a downer.. I rather enjoy watching the Thai News through your channel, keep up the good work. It takes all sorts to make a world…

  8. yes. wine is expensive in thailand. this is why i don't drink wine in thailand. the cheap stuff gives me headache and does not please my taste buds. been there. done that. thanks but no thanks.

  9. This source of media needs to diversify into different topics of news instead of always negative stories. I suggest news sections on investment, technology and tourism. I hope to visit Thailand again next year. I miss the swimming pool in my favorite hotel.

  10. Corruption continues to be an international problem. Fewer whistle blowers are exposing corruption in government and corporations therefore a lot of corruption passes by unnoticed by the general public. Censorship can be used as a tool to hide corruption. Corruption is an extremely broad topic to explore.

  11. I bought a bottle of Porto in Tesco in the UK for about £7.50, the same bottle cost me £40.00 here in Thailand, decent wine like Echo Falls and others like it are super expensive here

  12. The pathetic state of Thailand continues…shame is not a word in their culture I guess. The latest embarrassing backdown comes from the hospital that did the autopsy that said he died of a drug overdose…"The hospital on Wednesday defended the report, saying it was issued only for Jeerapong’s family so they could apply for his death certificate. The complete autopsy report due next week would state a precise conclusion about the cause of death, it added.

  13. No! Tim, you are by far my favourite presenter after Clive James and John Suchet. I like your barbed wit, good timing, sarcasm and I resonate with your western cultural references, being from the uk myself.
If you stop presenting, I will probably watch the Thaiger much less.
Jay is a pretty good presenter too.
Jet seems like a nice lad but i suspect he is popular with a female following. It really annoys me when he seems to miss some western cultural references or has poor timing when delivering jokes. This may seem a bit pernickety on my part but after listening to English students butcher pronunciations and common proverbs at work, I’d like to be able to get the news without having to wince every time something is missed. Sorry if that sounds negative. We all have our favourite presenters.
Tim, you just seem more relaxed too, which is great.

  14. Hi Jay and Tim On Phuket being cheeper for buying a home, when i bought my condo in Kathu i did the calculations on cost per square metre compared to my home in Perth Aus and Kathu was 7 times the price per square metre of Perth

  15. WINE ADDICT:
After living here for a few years now, I find most, not all, imported wines from Australia are second and third grade wines at highly inflated prices. (Gov import tax 60%) I have seen $10 – $15 bottles of wine from Australia on the shelf here for 600B – 800B. If you want a top shelf red wine you will be paying 1000B – 1200B plus. At the end of the day I would still pay up to 900B for an Australian wine rather than drink the lollie water they make here.

  16. I agree that police killing prisoners is not exclusive to Thailand and wouldn't put many tourists off coming. However, what is exclusive is that, even with the harrowing cctv footage, there is very little confidence in Thailand that the killers (that is surely not "alleged") will be jailed for any length of time.

  17. for a wine lover in Thailand a decent wine starts from 700+(rare find), for supermarket 400+ are fun wine for general public, same for W?ine Connect?on, won'r catchh me drinking any of theirs. For a truely wine enthusiast in bkk, good time startjng with from 1200+ retail, or 1900+ from restaurant.

  18. IMHO, you're half right; the police corruption WILL effect tourism if it gets the reputation of the police extprting tourist.

Sadly, the world rarely cares what governments do to their own people.

  19. I understand you are trying to be fair, but comparing requiring people to be vaccinated to stop the spread of a deadly disease to the racism of apartheid South Africa or The U.S. or the antisemitism of Nazi Germany is absolutely ridiculous!

  20. I always feel so sad that you guys receive so much negativity. Most news channels don't open the comments section (for a reason). But you guys ask for everyone's comments with open arms and without judgement. I really respect that! I wish people could appreciate your work a bit more 🙂 Keep up the good work! And enjoy your well deserved weekend 🙂

  21. i'd have to agree that such stories about the rampant police corruption don't really affect tourism, most of the time it barely scratches the surface of news reports outside of Thailand!!!
yeah, although i lived Koh Lanta 8 1/2 yrs, now i'm in Germany, i would NOT go into ANYplace that requires vaccinations while locking others out!!!

  22. the comment from a reader named "Todd" is a little naïve. Whilst agreeing with him about being part of the problem by passively paying a bribe for so called small infringements is not the way forward….in reality this doesn't usually end well if you start disagreeing with the police officer who pulled you over. From my own experiences I was stopped for apparently driving too long in the right hand lane of a 2 lane country road……this was an absolute lie by this policeman so I decided to verbally disagree with him and said he was just flat out lying. Luckily I had my Thai partner in the passenger seat who then had to diffuse the situation as the officer had threatened me with a night in jail if I didnt pay the 500 Baht fine…ooops…I mean tea money. Anyhow, cutting a long story short, I exited the car and went for a short walk to calm down and not open my mouth again. Returning about 1 minute later my partner gave this corrupt cop 50 Baht and we were waved on our way. Similar incident happened about another 100kms up the road this time saying was speeding which I wasn't (I stuck to the speed limited) whilst numerous Thai car drivers and un-roadworthy trucks sped past me in the other lane doing some crazy speeds and dangerous overtaking manoeuvres . Same ending…..paid 50 Baht only and moved off. So I tried to fight the system and was bluntly told I would spend a night in jail if I didn't comply. I cant ever trust a Thai cop ever again which is so sad.
